About KISAKI

Lydia Kim (born August 9), known professionally as KISAKI, is a Korean-Canadian producer-DJ, engineer, vocalist and A&R from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Although having been classically trained in voice and music theatre from the age of 14, KISAKI found her joy and passion in dancing to K-Pop, watching anime and playing video games at a time when those around her did not share her interests. Her constant motivation for music stems from the desire to draw a bridge between nerd and mainstream pop culture. Today, KISAKI is best known for her performances on the #WeTouchGrass Anime Rave Tour. KISAKI also plays a role as A&R at Emtee Music Group and is a recurring mentor for SOCAN Foundation’s Equity X Production Mentorship Program.

At 13 years old KISAKI took a big interest in video and Youtube. Particularly, Youtube became a hub for KISAKI to discover new music. As her love for music grew her desire to express herself as her favourite artists and bands do, also grew. This led her to teach herself production, recording and mixing.

In 2013, KISAKI attended the University of Waterloo where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Music. Shortly after, she pursued her Masters of Music Performance in Music Technology and Digital Media at the University of Toronto. During her time at school she began expanding her musical journey with collaborations with underground EDM producers and Touhou music groups (in the U.S. and Japan) as a songwriter and/or vocalist. Her contributions included music in genres such as melodic dubstep, future bass, hardstyle, synthwave and eurobeat genres.

In July 2021, Kim released her self-produced debut extended play, “Heart Battery,” and a collaborative remix extended play for her title track, “Battery” the following year. This was the inaugural beginnings of the KISAKI brand.

In 2022, KISAKI joined Emtee Music Group as an intern but quickly progressed to become a resident producer and A&R for the label. Her creative expertise has contributed to the development of young independent artists such as Dillon Antony and Ary Roberto.

By the spring of 2022, KISAKI helped revive SOCAN Foundation’s Equity X Production Mentorship Program. Kim has been a recurring mentor for female and non-binary musicians while facilitating the program. As a part of the program KISAKI also contributed and traveled with SOCAN Foundation for their pop up at BreakOut West in Calgary, Alberta in 2022 and Kelowna, British Columbia in 2023.

Presently, KISAKI’s love for anime and high-energy electronic dance music has not only made her a valuable producer and A&R for Emtee Music Group but she’s also become a priority act on their label roster. This new endeavor as a cyber culture producer/DJ locked her into the 2024 DJ lineup for #WeTouchGrass Anime Rave Tour. KISAKI performed in eight cities for the 2024 tour across Canada (Toronto, Halifax, Montreal, Calgary) and the U.S. (Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Detroit).
